We had our first adventure hiking up to the summit of the Melibokus outside Darmstadt, Germany.
We had an amazing time and we were all so impressed with the Huckleberry and how it handled the many varieties of terrain we covered. This trip was so special for us because it has been many years since we have been able to go to the woods as a whole family without having to do intensive research and planning to figure out if the path was okay for Coralie's wheelchair. Every trip was always clouded by an unconscious worry and stress wondering if the path would work out and what might be waiting for us between beginning and end of our journey.
This weekend was different. We were calm and confident knowing that no matter what obstacles we came across, we would not somehow muddle through, we would dominate it. The last 200 meters to the summit was very uneven, lots of fallen trees and large rocks and before we would have had to just accept that we couldn't make it any farther. But this time we forged ahead and reached the summit triumphantly, albeit a bit out of breath 😂.
I was really not prepared for the huge rush of emotions that hit me during this hike. I was close to tears many times realizing how much the feeling of true freedom had been missing from our lives and how amazing it felt in that moment to finally have it back. All the obstacles we met on the trail were met with a laugh and excitement as we plowed through in search of the next one and the feeling was simply incredible.
I kept finding myself pondering, what makes this piece of equipment so much different than all the other stuff we already have? And what I settled on is that wheelchair and bath seats and adapted tricycles all help disabled kids accomplish the ordinary things, but the Huckleberry really makes the extraordinary possible. Thank you so incredibly much for all your dedication to this product, we feel so blessed to own one and are looking forward to the future developments.
